Dry mouth is usually because of nerves. There are quite a few do’s and don’ts to help deal with this annoying problem. First, caffeine and alcohol can both cause dehydration, so avoid them before you take the stage. Next, be sure to have a glass of water at hand while you’re speaking, but try not to use it as a crutch or nervous habit. Remember Paul Ryan during the vice presidential debate?

While there are a variety of techniques to manage a dry mouth, here’s one sure-fire way to quickly solve the problem: gently (and please be gentle!) bite your tongue. You’ll fiind that your mouth instantly fills with saliva.
